Census Bureau: 0.3% of people in Holmes County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 17,243 citizens living in Holmes County in 2021, 99.7% said they were only one race, while 0.3% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Holmes County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was African American, comprising 84.3% or 14,535 individuals. Following them, white accounted for 15.1% and totaled 2,599 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Holmes County is 2.1% lower than the state average, which stands at 2.4%.
