2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Choctaw County School District students?

White students made up 55% of the 1,218 students enrolled in Choctaw County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 3.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Choctaw County High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 508 students.

A snapshot of Choctaw County School District schools showed 55% of students were white, 37.6% were Black, and 2.1% multiracial.

Choctaw County School District roughly covers four schools within Choctaw County and has a main office in Ackerman.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
