2019-2020: What were the backgrounds of Montgomery County students?

Of the 1,270 students enrolled in Montgomery County schools in 2019-2020, 62.8% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Montgomery County students.

This is a 0.5% increase over the previous school year.

Winona Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Montgomery County schools showed 62.8% students were Black or African American, 34.5% were White and 0.9% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are two schools in Montgomery County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
