Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black or African American highest represented background in Carroll County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 923 students enrolled in Carroll County schools in 2019-2020, 56.8% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Carroll County students.

This is a 0.9% increase over the previous school year.

J. Z. George High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Carroll County schools showed 56.8% students were Black or African American, 36% were White, 3.6% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.6% were Two or More Races.

There are two schools in Carroll County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
