What background was most represented in Choctaw County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 1,278 students enrolled in Choctaw County schools in 2019-2020, 59.2% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Choctaw County students.

This is a 1.2% decrease from the previous school year.

Ackerman Elementary School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Choctaw County schools showed 59.2% students were White, 35.6% were Black or African American and 1.9% were Two or More Races.

There are four schools in Choctaw County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
