Holmes ADN student Diamond Boyd receives nursing award

The Eliza Pillar’s Registered Nurses of Mississippi held the Annual Scholarship Gala on Dec. 9 at Fondren Hall in Jackson. The celebratory night included honors, laughter, food and fun in recognition of scholarship and nursing excellence. The most important aspect of the gala included the awarding of the scholarships to minority students currently enrolled in a nursing program in the Metro Jackson area.

Holmes Community College’s Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) student Diamond Boyd received the Ruby Florence Book Award book award for outstanding contributions and future aspirations in nursing. ADN instructors Dr. Alice Austin, Dr. Tiffany Cox, Alicia Turner and Virginia Applewhite attended the event to support Boyd.

“I congratulate Diamond on receiving this book award from Eliza Pillar’s Registered Nurses of Mississippi,” Dr. Austin said. “Diamond is a fourth semester nursing student expected to graduate in May. She exhibits caring and compassion for the patients she cares for. I expect great things in nursing from Diamond as she continues her education. Congratulations!”

Dr. Cox also expressed her excitement for Boyd receiving the Ruby Florence Award.

“Diamond is an intelligent, humble and very respectful student,” Dr. Cox said. “She cares about the welfare of others including her fellow students and the clients served in practice. Diamond is excited about where her career will take her and the opportunities that the study of nursing will yield. I congratulate Diamond on receiving this award and look forward to seeing where the path of nursing will lead.”
