Bulldogs fall to Rangers, 41-14

The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in the North Division with a 41-14 loss here Thursday to the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers.

Holmes will play their final regular season game on Thursday at 3 p.m. vs. Southwest in the Homecoming contest for Holmes.

Northwest scored twice in the first quarter, one on special teams and one on a rushing touchdown to lead 13-0 with 5:15 left in the quarter. Maxton Woodward had a block on the second extra point try.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 4:40 let to play in the first when Dekari Johnson connected with A.J. Davis IV on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Will Carter's extra point made the score, 13-7.

Northwest scored with :21 left on a rushing touchdown. The extra point was good, and Northwest led 20-7 at halftime.

The Rangers scored once in the third on a rushing touchdown and extra point to go up 27-7. The increased the lead to 34-7 on a passing touchdown and extra point early in the fourth.

The Bulldogs scored with 11:12 left in the fourth when Vontrez Rush scored from a yard out to end all scoring with the Bulldogs after Carter's extra point was good.

Northwest scored with 6:23 on a rushing touchdown and extra point to end the scoring at 41-14.

Philip Short was 21-of-39 for 192 yards. Kerrick Ross had eight catches for 62 yards while Rush had 57 yards on four catches and Davis had four catches for 51 yards. 

Breon Jordan had 11 tackles while Laquan Robinson and Jodie Williams each had nine while Miguel Evans and Chris Walley had eight tackles. Yaphet Hearn had one tackle for loss while Laterrance Cassels and Williams added a .5 TFL.
